About the clinic

A small clinic where you see the same practitioner

Blue Heron opened in a converted bungalow in 2011 and has stayed deliberately small. You book with one acupuncturist and stay with them, so nobody has to re read your chart from scratch. We keep notes you are welcome to take to your physician.

•Both practitioners are licensed in North Carolina and NCCAOM certified
•Single use sterile needles, opened in front of you
•We bill BCBS, Cigna, Aetna and United directly
•Free parking behind the building, ground floor entrance

What patients say

“I came in for migraines I had been having for eleven years. By the fourth session they had dropped from weekly to about once a month.”

Dana R., Migraine treatment

“The community clinic made this affordable for me. Thirty five dollars and my lower back stopped waking me up at night.”

Marcus T., West Asheville

“They coordinated with my fertility clinic without me having to play messenger. That alone was worth it.”

FAQ

Common questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles are about the width of a human hair, far thinner than anything used to draw blood. Most people feel a brief dull ache or a warm heaviness at the point, then nothing. If a point is uncomfortable, tell us and we adjust it right away.

How many sessions will I need?

For an acute problem, often three to five. For something you have had for years, we usually plan six to eight sessions and then formally reassess. We will tell you honestly if acupuncture is not helping rather than keep booking you.

Will my insurance cover this?

Many BCBS, Cigna, Aetna and United plans in North Carolina include acupuncture benefits, often with a visit limit per year. Send us your member ID before your first visit and we will verify coverage and tell you your expected copay.

What should I do before and after a treatment?

Eat something light within a couple of hours beforehand and wear loose clothing that rolls above the knee and elbow. Afterward, skip heavy lifting or hard training that day and drink water. Some people feel energized, others feel pleasantly sleepy.
