A neighborhood shop, not a chain
Anvil and Comb opened on West 25th in 2012 in a building that had been a barbershop twice before. Six barbers, all licensed, most of them here for years. We keep walk ins open on purpose because a barbershop where you cannot get a Saturday cut without an app is not really a neighborhood barbershop.

Shop questions
Do I need an appointment?
No. We hold most of the book open for walk ins and post the live wait online and on the door. Appointments are useful for Saturday mornings and for straight razor shaves, which take a full thirty minutes.
How long does a straight razor shave take?
About thirty minutes. It is three hot towels, pre shave oil, a full lather, two passes with the razor and an aftershave finish. It is not a fast service, which is the whole point of it.
Can I request a specific barber?
Yes, and most regulars do. Request by name when you book or when you check in for a walk in. If your barber is slammed, the wait board shows their next open slot separately.
How often should I come in for a fade?
A skin fade looks sharp for about two weeks and acceptable for three. Longer scissor cuts stretch to five or six weeks. If you want to stretch a fade, ask your barber to leave the taper a touch longer and it grows out cleaner.
