Many funeral homes in this region send cremations out to a contractor. Riverstone runs its own licensed facility on Franklin Boulevard, so from transfer to return your loved one stays with us. Every cremation is tracked with a numbered stainless identification disc that stays with the remains and comes back with the ashes.

Cremation questions
How long does the process take?
Oregon requires a waiting period and a signed permit from the medical examiner before cremation can occur, which usually takes two to four business days. From the initial call to the return of the ashes, most families wait seven to ten days.
How do you guarantee we receive the right ashes?
A numbered stainless steel disc is assigned at transfer and stays with the body through refrigeration, cremation, and processing. It is returned with the ashes so you can match it to your paperwork. We cremate one person at a time, and the chamber only holds one.
Can we hold a service if we cremate?
Yes. Some families hold a viewing before the cremation, others hold a memorial afterward with the urn present. We can host a small gathering in our family room or coordinate with your church or funeral home.
What can we do with the ashes?
You can keep them, divide them among family, bury them in a cemetery plot or columbarium, or scatter them. Scattering rules vary by location, and scattering at sea or on federal land requires specific permissions. We handle those permits when you ask.
