Reward based, and honest about timelines
Steady Paw was started in 2017 by two certified trainers who kept meeting dogs that had been made worse by shock collars and bad advice. We use food, play and marker training, and we will tell you plainly how long a behavior is likely to take. Reactivity in particular is management plus training over months, not a weekend fix.

FAQ
What owners ask before starting
How long until my dog is trained?
Basic manners like sit, recall and loose leash walking usually show real progress in six to eight weeks with daily practice. Reactivity and separation anxiety take months, and anyone promising a two week fix for those is selling suppression, not training.
Do you use prong or shock collars?
No. We train with food, play and marker work. Aversive tools can stop a behavior fast, but with fear based problems like reactivity they often make the underlying emotion worse, which shows up later as a bite.
Is board and train better than lessons?
Not usually. Dogs learn quickly with a trainer and then have to relearn it with you, which is why we build three handover lessons into every board and train. If your schedule allows private lessons, that path holds up better.
My dog is aggressive toward people. Can you help?
Sometimes, and we start with a consultation and a conversation about safety and realistic outcomes. For serious bite history we work alongside a veterinary behaviorist rather than on our own, and we will refer you if that is what the case needs.
