What EV owners ask us
Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel?
Often not. We run a load calculation on your existing service first, and many homes with 100 or 125 amp panels can take a charger using a load management device or a lower charging amperage. We only recommend a panel upgrade when the calculation actually requires it.
Is a permit really necessary?
Yes. A 240 volt circuit for a charger requires a permit in every jurisdiction we serve, and an unpermitted install can cause problems with insurance claims and home sales. The permit and the inspection visit are included in our quoted price.
Should I get a hardwired charger or an outlet?
Hardwiring is generally safer for daily charging at 40 amps or more and is required for some units. A NEMA 14-50 outlet is a good choice if you may move the charger or take it with you. We will tell you which suits your setup during the quote.
How long does the install take?
A standard install with a short run from the panel takes four to six hours, and you can usually charge that evening. Trenching, detached garages and panel upgrades add a day. Inspection is scheduled separately and does not stop you charging.
