Our approach

Small on purpose, and staying that way

Northfield was founded in 2012 by advisors who left commission based firms and did not want to go back. We cap the practice at roughly seventy households so meetings do not get compressed. Most of our clients are within ten years of retirement and want to know whether the number they have is enough.

•Fee only fiduciary, no commissions or product sales
•Flat fees quoted in writing before any engagement
•Household cap so your advisor has time for your questions

Reviews

What clients say

“The first advisor I met with spent forty minutes on an annuity. Northfield spent forty minutes on my spending and told me I could retire two years earlier than I thought.”

Paul S., retired 2024

“They mapped out my RSU vesting against my tax bracket and saved me a five figure mistake I was about to make.”

Anita R., equity compensation client

“I asked what they earn if I follow their advice. The answer was nothing extra, and they showed me the fee schedule to prove it.”

Dale W., planning client
FAQ

Questions about working together

What does fee only actually mean?

It means our entire compensation comes from the fees you pay us directly. We receive no commissions, referral payments or revenue sharing from any product we recommend. You can verify a firm's status on the SEC and NAPFA public listings.

Do I need a minimum amount of money?

There is no asset minimum for a comprehensive plan or hourly work. Ongoing management starts at a $7,200 annual fee, which for most households becomes reasonable somewhere around $700,000 in investable assets.

Who holds my money?

An independent custodian, not us. Your accounts stay in your name and you receive statements directly from the custodian. We have authority to trade and to bill our agreed fee, and no ability to move money to any third party.

What happens at the intro call?

Thirty minutes, no charge, mostly us listening. If your situation is a fit we send a written fee quote. If an hourly conversation would serve you better than a full plan, we say that instead.
