Grainline has been laying floors in Kansas City since 2003, through oak, then bamboo, then vinyl plank. Our lead installers have twelve years with us on average, which is why the seams line up and the transitions look intentional. We take moisture readings on every wood job and will delay an install rather than lay hardwood over a slab that is not ready.

Flooring questions
How long does a hardwood refinish take?
Three to five days for a typical main floor, including sanding, staining if you want color, and three coats of finish. You can walk on it in socks after twenty-four hours, but furniture and rugs should wait a week for the finish to cure.
Should I choose hardwood or luxury vinyl plank?
Hardwood adds resale value and can be refinished several times, which makes it the better long-term choice on main levels. LVP is waterproof and far more forgiving in basements, rentals, and homes with big dogs and small children.
Do I have to move out during installation?
Almost never. We work room by room, seal off the work area, and most families stay in the house, though a refinish with oil-based stain means a couple of nights away for anyone sensitive to fumes.
Why does the subfloor matter so much?
Flatness and moisture drive nearly every flooring failure we get called to fix, from hollow-sounding clicks to cupped boards. We measure both before quoting, and any leveling or repair appears as its own line so nothing gets discovered mid-job.
