How we work
Same crew from first plank to final coat
Crossgrain runs two crews and neither one gets subcontracted out mid job. Hardwood is delivered and left to acclimate in the house before install, which is the step most rushed jobs skip and the reason gaps show up in February. You get a written schedule and the same lead installer answers your questions the entire time.

What homeowners ask us
How long will my house be unusable?
A typical 1,000 square foot install runs two to three days, and refinishing runs four to five because of coat drying time. On refinishing you can usually walk the floor in socks after 24 hours but should keep furniture and rugs off for a week. We stage rooms so you rarely lose the whole house at once.
Can I put hardwood in a basement?
Solid hardwood, no, because below grade moisture will move it no matter how well it is installed. Engineered hardwood or luxury vinyl plank over a moisture tested slab is the right answer down there. We take slab readings before quoting so the recommendation is based on your basement, not a general rule.
Should I refinish or replace my existing hardwood?
If the boards still have enough thickness above the tongue, refinishing is usually cheaper and keeps the original wood. Floors that have been sanded three or more times, or that have widespread water damage, are past that point. We measure remaining thickness during the in home visit and tell you which it is.
Do you move the furniture?
Yes, standard furniture moving is included in the quote for the rooms being floored. Pianos, gun safes, aquariums, and anything requiring disassembly are not, and we will flag those at the measure. Appliances get pulled and reset by our crew.
