About the company
Twenty two years of Minnesota winters
Northstar was started in 2003 by Rick Vandenberg out of a single van. We now run eleven trucks with nine NATE certified technicians, all of them our employees on salary rather than commission. That last part matters, because nobody here earns more by selling you a furnace you did not need.

Repairs, replacement and cost
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
Our rule is that if the repair costs more than a third of a new system and the unit is over fifteen years old, replacement usually makes sense. Under that, repair it. We will give you both numbers and let you decide without pressure.
How fast can you get here when the heat is out?
During heating season we target a two hour arrival window for no heat calls, including nights and weekends. If your house is below 55 degrees or you have infants or elderly residents, tell dispatch and you move to the front.
What does a new furnace actually cost?
Most Minneapolis homes land between $4,600 and $7,800 installed, depending on efficiency, size and whether venting or ductwork needs changes. That price includes the permit, inspection and haul away of the old unit. We quote in your home, not over the phone.
Is the maintenance plan worth it?
If you have a system older than eight years, generally yes. Two visits a year at $219 costs less than one emergency call, and plan members get priority scheduling in January when everyone else is waiting two days.
