Know the freezer failed at 2am, not at 7

Battery powered sensors, a cellular gateway that does not touch your network, and a phone call to a real person when a temperature goes out of range. Compliance reports export in one click.

Hardware and service

Sensors, gateway and the monitoring behind them

Hardware is purchased once, monitoring is a monthly per site subscription with no per sensor fee.

$119

Temperature sensor

Wireless probe rated from minus 90 to 60 Celsius, five year battery, NIST traceable calibration included.

$94

Humidity and door sensor

Tracks ambient humidity or logs every door open event with duration, same battery life.

$340

Cellular gateway

Connects up to 60 sensors over its own LTE connection, no IT involvement and no wifi credentials.

From $59/mo per site

Monitoring subscription

Unlimited sensors per site, cloud dashboard, alert escalation and two years of data retention.

$29/mo

Live call escalation

When an alert is unacknowledged for ten minutes, our staffed desk phones your on call list in order.

$38 per sensor

Annual recalibration

Swap program with NIST traceable certificates, replacements ship before you return the old ones.

About Thistle

Built for a walk in freezer, not a data sheet

Thistle was founded in 2017 by hardware engineers who kept seeing pharmacies lose inventory to a failure nobody noticed until morning. The gateway carries its own cellular connection specifically because getting a device onto a hospital or grocery network takes months. Sensors ship calibrated and keep logging locally even if the gateway goes offline.

•Sensors buffer readings locally and backfill when the gateway reconnects
•Gateway uses its own LTE, no wifi credentials and no IT ticket
•NIST traceable calibration certificate with every sensor, included in the price

Reviews

From pharmacy and food operators

“A compressor failed on a Saturday night. The call came at 2:14am, our manager was there by three, and we moved 40,000 dollars of vaccine before it went out of range.”

Dana K., Pharmacy director

“Our health inspector asked for six months of logs. It took me about ninety seconds to export the PDF she wanted.”

Luis F., Multi unit restaurant operator

“IT would not put anything new on our network. The gateway needed a power outlet and nothing else, which ended a conversation that had gone on for a year.”

Marilyn T., Clinical lab manager
FAQ

Installation, alerts and compliance

How hard is installation?

Most sites are self installed in under an hour. The gateway plugs into an outlet and finds cellular on its own, sensors mount with the included bracket or magnet and pair by holding a button. We ship everything preconfigured to your site name and sensor labels so nothing needs setting up on arrival.

What happens when a temperature goes out of range?

You get an app push, an SMS and an email immediately, sent to whoever is on your escalation list. If nobody acknowledges within ten minutes and you have live call escalation, our staffed desk calls your on call list in order until a human answers. Every alert and acknowledgement is logged for your records.

Will this satisfy our inspector or auditor?

Sensors ship with NIST traceable calibration certificates and the system produces continuous logs with tamper evident records, which is what VFC, health department and most accreditation audits ask for. We provide the export formats inspectors commonly request. We cannot promise a specific auditor's opinion, but we have not had a customer fail on the data.

What if the internet or power goes out?

Sensors keep logging to onboard memory for up to 30 days and backfill automatically once the gateway returns, so you do not get a gap in your compliance record. The gateway has a battery backup that keeps it reporting for about eight hours, which covers most outages, and a power loss itself triggers an alert.
