A second generation shop that still quotes small runs
Halden has been machining in Grand Rapids since 1988 and is run today by the founder's daughter. We deliberately keep capacity for 25 to 500 piece runs because those are the jobs larger shops decline and the ones our customers most need reliably. Questions from buyers and engineers
What is your minimum order quantity?
There is no hard minimum, though below about 25 pieces the setup cost dominates the unit price and you may be better served by a prototype shop. Our sweet spot is 25 to 5,000 pieces, and repeat orders get better pricing because the setup and fixturing already exist. We will tell you if your quantity is a poor fit for us.
How fast can you turn a job?
Quotes go out within 48 hours. Production lead time on new parts is typically three to five weeks depending on material availability and any outside finishing. Repeat parts often run in two weeks, and we hold a limited amount of expedite capacity for existing customers.
What files and documentation do you need to quote?
A STEP or Parasolid model plus a dimensioned print with tolerances, material specification, and any finishing or certification requirements. A model with no print means we have to guess which dimensions are critical, which makes the quote conservative. Tell us the annual volume too, since it changes how we tool the job.
Do you handle finishing like anodizing or plating?
We coordinate it through vetted finishing partners and manage the logistics, so you get one purchase order and one delivery. Finishing typically adds one to two weeks to lead time. Certifications from the finisher come with the shipment.
