Find the gap, then fix the grade

Every student starts with a free diagnostic that shows exactly which skills are missing. Most of the time the problem started two years earlier.

How we work

We go backward before we go forward

Northline was started in 2013 by two classroom teachers who kept meeting students failing Algebra 2 because of sixth grade fractions. Every tutor holds a state teaching license or a math degree plus classroom experience. We report progress to parents in writing every four sessions.

•Free 90 minute diagnostic with a written skills report before you pay anything
•No packages, no contracts, stop whenever the grade is fixed
•Written progress note to parents every four sessions

Reviews

What parents say

“The diagnostic found that my son never learned negative numbers properly. Four years of struggle explained in ninety minutes.”

Renee C., parent, Algebra 2

“Went from a 61 to an 88 over one semester and, more importantly, she stopped saying she was bad at math.”

Josh D., parent, Geometry

“SAT math went up 90 points in six sessions because they worked on content, not tricks.”

Amara O., parent, SAT prep
FAQ

Tutoring questions

How many sessions will my child need?

Most students working on a current course do one session a week for six to ten weeks. If the diagnostic shows gaps going back two or more years, plan on twice a week for the first month. We tell you the estimate after the diagnostic and revise it honestly.

Is online tutoring as effective as in person?

For math, yes, when it is done with a shared digital whiteboard so the tutor can see the work as it happens. About half our students are online now. Younger students, grade 6 and 7, often do better in person for the first month.

Do you help with homework or teach ahead?

Both, but homework alone rarely fixes a grade. We usually spend part of each session on the immediate assignment so the student is not underwater, and part rebuilding the missing skill underneath it.

What if my child does not like the tutor?

Tell us and we will switch, no charge and no awkward conversation. Fit matters more in tutoring than in almost any other service, and a student who dreads the session will not learn.
