The crew
Painters who own the boom lift
Broad Brush started in 2016 with two painters and a rented scissor lift. We own our lift now, which is why our bids do not swing with rental availability, and we hold the insurance certificates most building owners and cities require. We are a Detroit crew and most of our work is within a few miles of the shop.

Commissioning a mural
What does a mural actually cost?
Most exterior walls we paint run between $18,000 and $60,000 depending on square footage, height, surface condition and design complexity. Brick that needs repointing or pressure washing first adds cost, and we flag that before quoting.
How long will the paint last outdoors?
Exterior grade acrylic with UV stable pigment on properly prepped masonry holds its colour eight to twelve years in this climate. A clear coat extends that and makes tag removal possible. We recommend a touch up inspection around year six.
Do I need a permit?
In Detroit it depends on the wall, the zoning and whether the design includes any commercial message, which can classify it as signage. We check that up front, prepare the submission and are used to the approval timeline, which usually runs four to eight weeks.
What season can you paint in?
Exterior work runs roughly late April through October here, because acrylic needs surface temperatures above 50 degrees to cure properly. Interior murals we paint year round, including nights and weekends around your business hours.
