About the salon
Six technicians, one very serious sterilizer
Lumen opened on Hawthorne in 2019 because the owner could not find a salon that did dry manicures and took sanitation seriously. We autoclave every metal implement, log the cycles, and throw away files and buffers after one guest. The ventilation was upgraded before we opened, which is why the room does not smell like a nail salon.

Nail care questions
What is a dry manicure and why do you do it?
It means no soaking before the service. Soaking swells the nail plate, so polish applied afterward lifts as the nail shrinks back. A dry manicure with an electric file gives a cleaner cuticle line and noticeably longer gel wear.
Is gel bad for my nails?
Gel itself is not the problem, removal is. Scraping or peeling gel off takes nail plate with it. We soak off properly, which takes about fifteen minutes, and structured gel actually protects thin nails while they grow out.
How long do gel extensions last?
Two to three weeks before a fill, and the full set can be maintained for months with regular fills. We use soft gel tips rather than acrylic, which means removal is a soak off instead of a heavy filing.
Do you charge to remove product from another salon?
Yes, $15 for gel and $25 for extensions, because it takes real chair time. Removal is free when you had the original service with us and are rebooking.
