There is no fee and no income requirement for any program listed here.
Daily hot meal
A full dinner served at 5:30pm, about 260 meals a week during the school year.
Summer learning program
Six weeks in July and August focused on preventing reading loss over the summer.
Teen job readiness
Resume help, interview practice and a paid summer placement with local employers for 24 teens.
Volunteer tutoring shift
Two hours a week, training provided, background check required and paid for by us.
Sponsor a student for a year
Covers one student's meals, materials and staffing for a full school year.
Our work
Started by four South Bend parents in 2009
Riverbend began when four parents on the near west side pooled money to keep a church basement open after school. We now operate from our own building on Michigan Street with nine staff and 62 regular volunteers. Our audited financials and 990 are posted publicly every year.

Donors and volunteers ask
Where does my donation go?
Eighty six percent goes directly to programs, meaning meals, materials and program staff. The remainder covers the building, insurance and administration. Our audited statements and IRS Form 990 are posted on this site each spring.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes. Riverbend Youth Alliance is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and we mail an acknowledgment letter for every gift over $250 within two weeks.
How do I enroll my child?
Come to the Michigan Street building any weekday between 9am and 5pm with a photo ID and your child's school information. Enrollment takes about twenty minutes and there is no waiting list for grades three through eight.
What does volunteering require?
A two hour weekly shift during the school year, a one evening training session and a background check that we pay for. Most tutors commit for a semester at a time.
