Notary questions
What do I need to bring?
Unsigned documents and a current government issued photo ID such as a driver license, state ID, passport or military ID. Do not sign anything before we arrive, because California requires the signature to happen in the notary's presence. Every signer must be present with their own ID.
How much does a mobile notary cost?
The notarial act itself is fifteen dollars per signature, capped by California law. Travel is a separate fee starting at forty five dollars, based on distance and whether it is after hours or a weekend. We quote the total before we schedule so there is no negotiating at your door.
Can you notarize for someone in a hospital?
Yes, we do it often. The signer must be conscious, able to communicate their understanding, and have valid ID or two credible identifying witnesses. If a patient cannot demonstrate awareness of what they are signing, we are legally required to decline, and we will tell you that on the phone beforehand.
What is an apostille and do I need one?
An apostille certifies a document for use in another country that is party to the Hague Convention, commonly needed for foreign marriages, dual citizenship, adoptions and overseas business filings. We notarize the document and process it through the California Secretary of State so you are not making the trip.
