Shucking on Dauphin since 2015

The catch is written on the board every morning

We buy from four Gulf boats and three oyster farms. If it is not on the board today, it means nobody landed it worth serving.

About the house

We buy the fish before we write the menu

Chef Renata Cobb grew up on Mobile Bay and still meets the boats herself three mornings a week. The kitchen builds the board around what came in, which is why the menu is short and why we sometimes run out of something by nine o'clock. We would rather do that than freeze it.

•Oysters tagged and traceable to the farm they came from
•No frozen imported shrimp, ever, only Gulf boats
•Board rewritten every morning, not printed monthly
Reviews

What guests say

“Best charbroiled oysters I have had outside New Orleans, and the shucker actually told us which farm each one came from.”

Bill S., visiting from Birmingham

“The whole grilled snapper fed two of us and I still think about the pecan smoke. Book ahead on a Saturday.”

Deirdre L., Saturday dinner

“We did a rehearsal dinner in the private room for 24. Set menu, no room fee, zero drama.”

Corey N., private event host
FAQ

Visiting Salt Marsh

Do you take reservations?

Yes, and we recommend them Thursday through Saturday. The bar and the six high tops by the window are always walk in only, so you can usually get an oyster and a drink without waiting more than 20 minutes.

Are oysters safe to eat year round?

Gulf oysters are harvested and sold all year under state health department oversight, and every lot we serve is tagged and traceable. If you are pregnant, immunocompromised, or have liver disease, order them charbroiled rather than raw.

What if I do not eat seafood?

There are always two non seafood entrees on the board, usually a wood grilled chicken and a seasonal vegetable plate, plus a burger for the kids. Tell your server about allergies and the kitchen will walk you through the fryer sharing.

Is there parking downtown?

There is metered street parking on Dauphin, free after 6pm, and a public deck one block north on Conti. Friday and Saturday nights fill up fast, so the deck is your better bet.
