Ash & Ember started as a booth at a Richmond flea market and moved into Carytown in 2017. We buy roughly one piece in six that comes through the door, because a vintage shop full of everything is a thrift store. Everything gets laundered, repaired, and measured before it hits the floor, which is why the prices are what they are.

Buying and selling
How does selling clothes to you work?
Book a thirty minute appointment Wednesday through Friday and bring up to two bags. We sort with you at the counter and pay forty percent of our resale price in cash, or fifty-five percent in store credit, on whatever we take.
What do you look for when buying?
Condition first, then era and cut. Natural fibers, union labels, single-stitch tees, and anything pre-1990 in wearable shape do well, and we generally pass on fast fashion, stained items, and anything needing more repair than it is worth.
How should I know my size in vintage?
Ignore the tag size entirely. Measure a garment you already own flat across the chest and waist and compare it to the numbers on our tags, and if you are in the shop we will measure you at the fitting bench.
Do you rent pieces for shoots?
Yes, three day rentals starting at forty-five dollars per piece with a refundable deposit equal to the sale price. Bookings for productions should come a week out so we can pull and hold a range of sizes.
