Hard water questions
How hard is the water here?
Most of the East Valley tests between 14 and 20 grains per gallon, which is very hard. That is why fixtures scale, water heaters fail early and soap does not lather. We test at your tap because it varies by supplier and neighborhood.
What size softener do I need?
Sizing is based on your measured hardness, number of people in the home and daily water use. A typical four person Mesa household on 16 grain water needs a 40,000 grain metered unit. Oversizing wastes salt, undersizing means hard water breakthrough.
Do salt free conditioners actually work?
They reduce scale buildup in pipes and heaters but they do not remove hardness minerals, so you will still see spotting and soap will not lather like it does with a softener. They are the right choice where salt discharge is restricted.
How long does installation take?
If your house has a plumbed softener loop in the garage, typically two to three hours. Homes without a loop need the line rerouted and run four to six hours. We schedule most installs within the same week as your test.
