How Hair Salons Get More Clients from Google and ChatGPT | How-to Guide
How salons turn searches into booked appointments: online booking on your Google profile, a priced service menu, stylist pages, before-and-after photos with real descriptions, reviews, and HairSalon schema.
Salon clients search for a result, not a salon: "balayage near me", "curly hair specialist", "men's fade [area]". Then they look at work, check the price, and book if booking is easy. A salon that wins search makes each of those steps obvious.
1. Let people book from Google
Booking systems such as Fresha, Booksy, Vagaro, Square Appointments and others can connect to Google so a Book button appears on your Business Profile. If yours does, switch it on. A client who can pick a time without calling is far more likely to finish. Choose "Hair salon" (or "Barber shop", "Nail salon") as your primary category, and add secondary categories only for services you really offer.
2. Publish a service menu with prices
"From" prices are fine; no prices is not. A service menu page that lists each service, how long it takes and what it costs answers the question most clients have before they book. It also gives you the words people search: "colour correction", "keratin treatment", "bridal hair trial".
3. Give your specialities their own pages
If you are known for curly cuts, blonding or extensions, write a page for each one: who it suits, how the appointment works, aftercare, typical price, and photos of your own work. These pages are what match specific searches, and they are also what an AI assistant needs to say "this salon specialises in curly hair".
4. Stylist pages
Clients book people. A short page per stylist with their specialities, years of experience, a portfolio and a direct booking link helps clients choose and gives search engines more to understand about what your salon does.
5. Photos that search can read
Post before-and-after photos on your profile and site. On the site, describe each one in the alt text and caption: "Copper balayage on shoulder-length hair". Instagram is your portfolio, but posts there do little for Google search, so put your best work on your own pages too.
6. Reviews
Ask right after the appointment, while the client is still looking in the mirror. A text or email with a direct review link works best. Reply to each review, and when a reviewer mentions a service ("best blowdry I've had"), that wording helps you match that search.
7. Schema
Use HairSalon (or BeautySalon, NailSalon) structured data with your address, hours, phone, price range and booking URL.
What AI assistants need from a salon site
Assistants recommend salons by matching a request ("a salon good with afro hair in Bristol") against what they can read. State your specialities, the hair types you work with, price ranges and whether you take walk-ins in plain sentences on your site. Do not block search crawlers in your robots file.
Mistakes salons make online
- A price list uploaded as a photo.
- Booking only by phone or Instagram message.
- No mention of patch tests, cancellation policy or deposits until after booking.
Writing a new speciality or aftercare page every week is hard between clients. SEO God Mode drafts one from the services already on your We.Inc site and sends it to you to publish or skip.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a Book button to my salon's Google profile?
Use a booking system that partners with Google, such as Fresha, Booksy, Vagaro or Square Appointments, and turn on its Google booking integration. The button then appears on your Business Profile.
Should a salon website show prices?
Yes. A priced service menu, even with "from" prices, answers the main question clients have and gives search engines the service names people search for.
Does Instagram help my salon rank on Google?
Very little. Use Instagram as a portfolio, but put your best photos and service descriptions on your own website and Business Profile, which Google uses for local results.
