localhost:47990: Sunshine's Admin Page
Sunshine, the open-source host for Moonlight game streaming, runs its configuration page at https://localhost:47990. It uses a self-signed certificate, so every browser warns first; that warning is expected on your own machine. If the page never loads, Sunshine is not running or its service failed to start.
| Port | Protocol | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 47990 | HTTPS | Web configuration page |
| 47989 | HTTP | Pairing and app list for Moonlight |
| 47984 | HTTPS | Secure pairing |
| 47998 to 48000 | UDP | Video, control and audio streams |
Updated
The web page is where you set the admin login, pair Moonlight clients with a PIN, and add the games or apps that clients can launch. All the ports derive from one base port, 47989, so changing that setting moves the page as well.
Reset the login and check the service
Set a new admin username and password
Run with Sunshine stopped. On Windows, run it from the install folder in an administrator terminal.
sunshine --creds admin a-new-strong-password
# Linux user service
systemctl --user restart sunshine
Service and permission issues
On Linux, Sunshine needs access to input devices and a capture method. When the page loads but streaming fails, check the log for capture errors rather than the browser. Website owners face nothing like this when publishing through We.Inc, since the hosting side is managed for them.
How it works
- Start Sunshine and confirm it is running in the tray or as a service.
- Open https://localhost:47990 and accept the certificate warning for this local page.
- Create the admin username and password on first visit.
- Enter the PIN that Moonlight shows on the PIN tab to pair the client.
Tips
- Type the https prefix. Plain http on 47990 does not serve the page.
- To open the page from another computer, use the host's local IP; by default Sunshine allows access only from the LAN.
- Antivirus or a strict firewall can block the UDP stream ports even when the page loads fine.
Frequently asked questions
Why does https://localhost:47990 say the connection is not private?
Sunshine generates its own certificate, which no public authority signed. On your own computer it is safe to continue past the warning to reach the page.
How do I reset a forgotten Sunshine password?
Stop Sunshine and run it once with the creds argument, for example sunshine --creds newuser newpassword, from the install folder. Then start it normally and sign in with the new pair.
Why does localhost:47990 not load at all?
Sunshine is not running, crashed at startup, or another program holds its ports. Its log file, linked from the tray menu and stored in the config folder, gives the reason.
Can I change port 47990?
Change the base port on the Network tab. The web page is always the base port plus one, so a base of 50000 puts the page on 50001.
