Bing Places for Business: A Practical Guide | How-to Guide

Why a Bing Places listing matters for Bing search, Microsoft maps and Copilot answers, how to import your Google profile into it, and what to check after the import.

Bing gets far less attention than Google from small businesses, which is a reason to bother with it. Bing Places for Business controls how you appear in Bing search and maps, and Bing's index also feeds Microsoft Copilot. Setting it up takes less than an hour if your Google profile is already in order.

Why it is worth the time

Bing Places for Business is Microsoft's free tool for adding or claiming a business on Bing and its maps. Microsoft's Copilot documentation says Copilot turns questions into searches sent to Bing to ground its answers, so a correct Bing listing is one of the places your hours, phone and services can come from when someone asks Copilot about local businesses.

The new Bing Places

In October 2025 Microsoft announced a rebuilt Bing Places for Business on the Bing blog, now reached from bing.com/forbusiness. The post describes a simpler claiming and editing flow and a faster import from Google that keeps details such as name, hours and contact information. If you set up a listing years ago on the old site, sign in again and check that it carried over.

Option 1: import from Google

  1. Sign in to Bing Places with a Microsoft account.
  2. Choose the option to import from Google Business Profile.
  3. Sign in to the Google account that manages your profile and select the locations.
  4. Review each imported listing before publishing.

Imports save time, but they copy mistakes as well. If your Google profile has old hours or a missing service, Bing will have them too.

Option 2: add or claim manually

Search for your business inside Bing Places. If a listing exists, claim it; otherwise create one. Bing will ask you to verify that you represent the business before the listing is yours to manage. Fill in the name exactly as on your signage, the main category, address or service area, phone, website, hours and photos.

What to check after setup

  • The business name has no added keywords. Bing's guidelines, like Google's, ask for the real name.
  • The categories describe your actual services.
  • Holiday hours are set, since Copilot and Bing may quote them.
  • The website link goes to a page that works and matches the listing.
  • Duplicate listings are reported or merged.

Pair it with Bing Webmaster Tools

Bing Places covers the listing; Bing Webmaster Tools covers your website. Verify your site there (you can import it from Google Search Console), submit your sitemap and check that your pages are indexed. Bing supports IndexNow, a way for sites to tell it about new or changed pages quickly, which some site platforms send automatically.

Keep it in step with Google

Every time you change hours, phone or address on Google, make the same change on Bing the same day. Mismatched details across listings make every search engine and assistant less sure which version is right.

Reviews on Bing

Look at what ratings appear next to your Bing listing and where they come from. You do not need a separate review drive for Bing, but if a third-party review site shows up there, keep that profile accurate too.

A listing points people to your site; the site then has to answer their questions. SEO God Mode keeps a We.Inc site supplied with service pages that Bing and Google can read in full, each one sent to you to publish or skip.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bing Places free?

Yes. Listing and managing your business on Bing Places costs nothing.

Can I copy my Google Business Profile to Bing?

Yes. Bing Places has an import from Google Business Profile. Check the imported details afterwards, because errors are copied too.

Does Bing Places affect Copilot?

Copilot often grounds answers in Bing results, so an accurate Bing listing is one of the sources it can draw local details from.
