Paste the addresses of the pages you want search engines to find, one per line. The generator checks each one, leaves out anything that should not be in a sitemap and tells you why, then builds a valid sitemap.xml to download. It only adds a last-modified date when you supply one. It does not crawl your site: browsers block one site from reading another, so you give it the list. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to We.Inc or anyone else, and it is gone when you close the tab.
A sitemap is a list of pages you want search engines to crawl and consider for their index. So it should contain your important pages at their final addresses, and nothing else. Pages that redirect, pages marked noindex and duplicate versions of a page (with tracking parameters, for example) all make the list less trustworthy.

No. Crawling another website from a web page is blocked by browsers, and we do not run a hidden crawler. You paste the page list, which also means nothing on your site is missed because a crawler could not reach it, and nothing private is listed by accident.
Because that would be false. lastmod should be the date the page content really changed. Search engines learn to ignore lastmod on sites that set it to today everywhere, so the tool only uses dates you give it.
It helps search engines discover them, but it does not guarantee indexing or ranking. That depends on the pages themselves.
