How to Add Fathom Analytics to Your Website

Fathom works from a single script tag that carries your site ID. Add it to the header of your site, or use Fathom's WordPress plugin, then visit the site and watch the Realtime count on your dashboard. Fathom uses no cookies, so its analytics need no consent banner.

Updated

Fathom suits people who run several small sites: the entry plan covers up to 50 sites under one pageview allowance, and the dashboard fits on one screen. It is a paid product from day one, with no permanent free tier.

Add Fathom on We.Inc, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or plain HTML

We.Inc

  1. Open "..." in the builder, then Add-ons.
  2. Choose Fathom Analytics and paste your site ID.
  3. Flip it on.
  4. Publish and look at Realtime in Fathom.

WordPress

  1. Head to Plugins, Add Plugin and search Fathom Analytics.
  2. Install and activate Fathom's plugin.
  3. Enter your site ID in its settings and save.

A paid WordPress.com plan is needed to add it there.

Wix

  1. Click Settings, then Custom Code, then + Add Custom Code.
  2. Paste the Fathom script tag, apply to All pages in Head, and save.

Wix only runs this on a published site with a connected domain.

Squarespace

  1. Go to Code Injection.
  2. Paste the script tag into Header and save.

Needs the Core, Plus or Advanced plan.

Plain HTML

  1. Add the script tag in <head> on every page.
  2. Deploy and check Realtime.

Shape of the Fathom embed

Copy the real tag from your dashboard; the only site-specific part is the data-site value.

<script src="https://cdn.usefathom.com/script.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_ID" defer></script>

Cookieless, but not consent-free for everything

Fathom's analytics sets no cookies, which is why it says you do not need a banner for it. That covers Fathom only. Ad pixels, chat widgets and video embeds can still set cookies that need consent; /guides/how-to-add-cookie-banner-to-website explains how to handle them.

How it works

  1. Create a Fathom account and add your site to get its site ID.
  2. Copy the embed code.
  3. Install it in the header of every page, or connect through a plugin or integration.
  4. Open the site and check the Realtime number at the top of the dashboard.

Tips

  • Use one Fathom account for all your sites; the pageview allowance is pooled, so quiet sites cost nothing extra.
  • Create events in Fathom for form success pages to see conversions next to traffic.
  • Check Realtime from a phone on mobile data to rule out your own network's blockers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Fathom have a free plan?

No permanent one. There is a 7-day trial that needs a card, then plans start at $15 a month.

Where do I find my Fathom site ID?

It is in the embed code for each site in your Fathom dashboard, in the data-site attribute.

Fathom or Plausible?

Both are cookieless, simple dashboards. Plausible has an open-source self-hosted edition and EU-only hosting; Fathom pools one allowance across many sites. Try each on the same site for a week.
