How to Add Plausible Analytics to Your Website

Plausible gives each site its own snippet: open the site's Settings, then General, scroll to Tracking and click Review next to Site installation. Paste it between the head tags. Plausible sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses, and it offers a 30-day trial with no card.

Updated

Plausible is a lightweight analytics dashboard on one page: visitors, sources, top pages, countries and devices. Site owners choose it to drop Google Analytics' complexity and the cookie banner that comes with it.

Add Plausible on We.Inc, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or plain HTML

We.Inc

  1. Select Add-ons in the builder's "..." menu.
  2. Choose Plausible Analytics and type in the domain or script details it asks for.
  3. Turn the switch on.
  4. Publish and open your Plausible dashboard to see the first visit.

We.Inc's built-in Analytics panel keeps working alongside Plausible.

WordPress

  1. Go to Plugins, Add Plugin and search for Plausible Analytics.
  2. Install and activate the official plugin.
  3. Open its settings and connect your Plausible site.

Installing plugins on WordPress.com needs a paid plan.

Wix

  1. Open Settings, then Custom Code, and click + Add Custom Code.
  2. Paste the Plausible snippet and apply it to All pages in the Head.
  3. Publish, then run Plausible's checker.

Wix needs the site published on a connected domain for custom code.

Squarespace

  1. Open Code Injection (Pages panel, Custom Code section).
  2. Paste the snippet into Header and save.

Requires Core, Plus or Advanced.

Plain HTML

  1. Place the snippet between <head> and </head> on every page.
  2. Upload and use Plausible's verification tool.

How it avoids cookies

Plausible states it uses no cookies, no local storage and no persistent identifiers. It counts unique visitors with a daily hash of the domain, IP and browser string plus a salt it deletes every 24 hours, so a visitor cannot be followed from one day to the next.

Visitor data is processed and stored in the EU. Whether you still need a banner depends on your other scripts; if you also run ad pixels, read our guide at /guides/how-to-add-cookie-banner-to-website.

How it works

  1. Add your domain in Plausible.
  2. Copy the snippet from Settings, General, Tracking, Site installation.
  3. Place it in the <head> of every page, or install the WordPress plugin.
  4. Run Plausible's verification tool to confirm it is detected.

Tips

  • On WordPress, the official plugin excludes your own visits and avoids clashes with caching plugins like WP Rocket.
  • Set up goals for form submissions in Plausible so the dashboard shows conversions, not just traffic.
  • A public or shared dashboard link is a quick way to show a client their numbers without giving them a login.

Frequently asked questions

Does Plausible need a cookie banner?

Plausible itself sets no cookies and keeps no persistent IDs, so many owners skip a banner for it. If other tools on your site set cookies, those still need consent.

Is there a free version?

The hosted service offers a 30-day free trial without a card, then paid plans. Plausible's open-source Community Edition can be self-hosted.

Why does Plausible show fewer visitors than Google Analytics?

The tools count differently and block lists treat them differently. Plausible counts a visitor per day, so returning visits on later days are new uniques.
