How to Add Your Website to Bing Webmaster Tools

The quickest route skips verification code entirely: in Bing Webmaster Tools, open My Sites, click Import, and sign in with the Google account that owns your Search Console property. Bing brings in the verified site and its sitemaps. Without Search Console, verify with a meta tag, an XML file or a DNS record.

Bing's index also feeds other search and answer engines that license it, so a site missing from Bing can be missing from more than one place. Webmaster Tools shows what Bing has crawled and lets you submit sitemaps.

Add your site to Bing on We.Inc, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or plain HTML

We.Inc

  1. Connect Search Console first from the builder's SEO panel and publish.
  2. In Bing Webmaster Tools, use Import from Google Search Console.
  3. If you would rather use Bing's meta tag, ask the AI chat to add it to the homepage head, then publish and click Verify in Bing.
  4. Submit your /sitemap.xml in Bing.

There is no Bing field in the SEO panel; the meta tag route goes through the AI chat, which uses credits on a paid plan.

WordPress

  1. Import from Search Console if the site is verified there, or
  2. Paste Bing's tag into your SEO plugin's Bing verification field and save.
  3. Click Verify in Bing Webmaster Tools.

Plugins on WordPress.com need a paid plan.

Wix

  1. In Bing, add your URL and copy the HTML meta tag.
  2. In Wix, open SEO, then Tools and settings, then Site Verification.
  3. Paste the tag for Bing and save.
  4. Return to Bing and click Verify.

The site has to be published on a connected domain with indexing allowed.

Squarespace

  1. Connect Google Search Console through Analytics, Search keywords.
  2. In Bing Webmaster Tools, import the site from Search Console.
  3. Submit your sitemap in Bing.

Pasting Bing's meta tag through Code Injection also works, but only on Core, Plus or Advanced plans.

Plain HTML

  1. Add the msvalidate.01 meta tag to your homepage <head>, or upload BingSiteAuth.xml to the root.
  2. Deploy and click Verify.

Bing's verification tag

Bing shows you the exact code in the add-site screen.

<meta name="msvalidate.01" content="YOUR_CODE" />

What the import keeps in sync

Import pulls your verified sites and their sitemaps, up to 100 sites at a time. Bing rechecks ownership by syncing with Search Console from then on, so revoking that access means re-importing or verifying another way.

New sites can take up to 48 hours to show traffic data after import.

How it works

  1. Sign in to Bing Webmaster Tools with a Microsoft, Google or Facebook account.
  2. Choose Import from Google Search Console, or add the site URL by hand.
  3. If adding by hand, pick meta tag, XML file or DNS and complete it.
  4. Submit your sitemap and check URL inspection on a key page.

Tips

  • Verify Google first, then import; it saves editing your site twice.
  • Use IndexNow-capable platforms or plugins to tell Bing about new pages quickly.
  • Check the Site Explorer report after a week for pages Bing could not crawl.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate verification for Bing if I use Google Search Console?

No. Importing from Search Console verifies the site in Bing automatically, as long as Bing keeps access to your Google account.

How long until my site appears in Bing?

Verification is immediate, but crawling and indexing take longer. Submitting a sitemap speeds discovery.

What is msvalidate.01?

It is the name of Bing's verification meta tag. Its content value is a code unique to your account.
