Mobile App Testing Checklist

Choose the platforms your app runs on, tick the features it has, and the tool builds a pre-launch checklist with only the checks that apply: install and update, sign-up, the core flows, payments, a slow or missing connection, interruptions, accessibility and what the app stores expect. Print it and tick the boxes as you test.

How it works

  1. Choose iOS, Android or both, and say whether you also support tablets.
  2. Tick the features your app has: sign-in, payments, notifications, camera, location, offline use and user-posted content.
  3. The checklist is grouped by area and shows only the checks that match your choices.
  4. Print the sheet or copy the text and work down it on real devices. The page does not save ticks, so a printed copy or a pasted copy in your notes is your record.

Why most launch bugs come from the edges

The main path of an app is the part its builder has used a hundred times, so it usually works. The bugs that reach users sit at the edges: the first launch after an update, a payment that is interrupted, a permission that was denied, a phone with almost no storage. A checklist helps because it makes you visit those places on purpose.

Group your testing by situation rather than by screen. Run the whole app once with a fast connection and everything allowed, once on a poor connection, and once with every permission denied. The same screens behave differently each time, and the difference is where problems hide.

Platforms, permissions and store rules

Permissions are a frequent cause of rejection and of unhappy users. Ask for access when the user reaches the feature that needs it, explain why in a sentence, and make sure the app still works, with a clear message, when the answer is no. The camera, location and notification checks in this list follow that pattern.

Store review is a test too. Both major stores check listings, privacy details and basic behavior, and a missing privacy policy link or a screen full of placeholder text can delay a release. Treat the store group as part of testing, not as paperwork after it, and leave time in your plan for a rejection and a second submission.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

What should be on a mobile app testing checklist?

Install and update, the main screens and navigation, sign-up and sign-in, any payments, notifications and device permissions, behavior on a slow or missing connection, interruptions such as calls, accessibility, different screen sizes and the app store requirements. This checklist covers each of those groups.

How many checks will I get?

It depends on your choices. With both platforms and no extra features there are 30 checks. Each feature you tick adds between 2 and 7, and supporting tablets adds 2. With everything ticked there are 61.

Do I need to test on both iOS and Android?

Test on every platform you plan to ship on. The two platforms differ in back navigation, permissions, sign-in options, payments testing and store requirements, so the checklist includes checks that belong to only one of them.

Is this list enough to launch?

It covers the common problems, but it does not know your app. Add rows for anything specific to it, such as a unique gesture or an integration, and keep testing with real users after release.

Can I tick items on the page?

No. The page builds the list and does not store anything. Print it, or copy the text into your notes or a spreadsheet and tick it there.
