How to Add the LinkedIn Insight Tag to Your Website

LinkedIn's tracking script is called the Insight Tag. In Campaign Manager go to Measure, then Signals manager, then Insight Tag, and copy your code. Install it on every page, then create conversions by event in Campaign Manager so form fills and demo requests are credited to your LinkedIn ads.

Updated

LinkedIn ads cost more per click than most networks, so B2B advertisers want to know exactly which clicks became pipeline. The Insight Tag adds that, plus website demographics: job titles, industries and company sizes of visitors who are LinkedIn members.

Add the LinkedIn Insight Tag on We.Inc, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or plain HTML

We.Inc

  1. Choose Add-ons from the "..." menu inside the builder.
  2. Select LinkedIn Insight Tag and paste the partner ID shown in your Insight Tag code.
  3. Turn the add-on on; the consent banner switches on with it for opt-in.
  4. Publish the site, then check the tag status in Campaign Manager.

WordPress

  1. Add a header and footer code plugin through Plugins, Add Plugin.
  2. Paste the Insight Tag into the site-wide footer or header field and save.
  3. Clear your cache plugin and load a few pages to wake the tag up.

WordPress.com plugins require a paid plan.

Wix

  1. Open Settings in the dashboard and choose Custom Code under Development & integrations.
  2. Click + Add Custom Code and paste the Insight Tag.
  3. Apply it to all pages and choose Body - end or Head, then click Apply.

Custom code only runs on a published Wix site with a connected domain, which needs a premium plan.

Squarespace

  1. Open Code Injection from the Pages panel's Custom Code section.
  2. Paste the Insight Tag into the Footer box so it loads on every page.
  3. Save and visit the live site.

Available on Core, Plus and Advanced plans only.

Plain HTML

  1. Paste the Insight Tag on every page; placing it just before </body> is common and fine.
  2. Deploy the files.
  3. Open Campaign Manager to confirm it reports as active.

One tag per ad account

The code is unique to your LinkedIn ad account, so agencies managing several clients must use the right account's tag for each site. Conversions are defined afterwards in Campaign Manager rather than in the tag itself.

LinkedIn tells advertisers not to install the tag on pages that handle sensitive data, such as health information or financial account pages. Leave it off logged-in client portals.

Consent

LinkedIn's tag is marketing tracking, which means European and UK visitors must say yes before it runs. Our cookie banner guide (/guides/how-to-add-cookie-banner-to-website) shows how to gate it.

How it works

  1. Sign in to Campaign Manager and open Measure, then Signals manager, then Insight Tag.
  2. Choose I will install the tag myself, send it to a developer, or use a tag manager.
  3. Put the code on every page of the site.
  4. Create a conversion by event, for example a thank-you page view, and attach it to campaigns.
  5. Come back to the Insight Tag screen to confirm the tag shows as active.

Tips

  • Google Tag Manager has a community template called LinkedIn Insight Tag 2.0; use it instead of a Custom HTML tag if you already run GTM.
  • Website demographics only fill in after enough LinkedIn members visit, so a low-traffic site may see little there at first.
  • Count demo requests with a dedicated thank-you URL; URL-based conversions are the easiest to keep accurate.

Frequently asked questions

Is the LinkedIn Insight Tag the same as a LinkedIn pixel?

Yes, people use both names. LinkedIn's own term is Insight Tag; there is also an image-pixel option for conversion tracking where JavaScript cannot run.

How long until the Insight Tag shows as active?

LinkedIn says installation takes a few minutes and asks you to confirm the status afterwards. Visit a few pages of the live site so the tag has traffic to report.

Can I see which companies visited my site?

You see aggregated demographics such as industries and company sizes, not named visitors. LinkedIn keeps the data anonymous to protect members.
