How to Add a Newsletter Signup Form to Your Website
Every email platform hands you a snippet: Mailchimp under Forms > Other forms > Create embedded form, Kit through the Embed button in its form builder, beehiiv from its Subscribe Forms page. Paste that snippet into an HTML or code block where the form should sit, publish, and send yourself a test signup.
| Provider | Path to the code | Code type |
|---|---|---|
| Mailchimp | Forms > Other forms > Create new form > Create embedded form | HTML form |
| Kit | Open the form > Embed (top right) > JavaScript or HTML tab | Script (recommended) or HTML |
| beehiiv | Subscribe Forms page > choose a form > embed options | HTML snippet (full or fixed width) |
Updated
The provider you choose decides the form's code, and the platform you build on decides where that code may go. Mailchimp gives you a plain HTML form you can restyle. Kit recommends its script version because edits made in Kit show up on your site automatically. beehiiv's embed is an iframe-style snippet sized full or fixed width.
Add a newsletter signup on We.Inc, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or plain HTML
We.Inc
- Using beehiiv? Open the ... menu, choose Add-ons, fill in the beehiiv embed field, switch it on, then ask the AI chat where to place it.
- Using Mailchimp or another list tool with a form the AI built? Open that form's 'Send entries to' settings and connect the Mailchimp card (or Kit, MailerLite, Brevo and others).
- Make sure the form has a marketing consent tick box; only people who tick it are sent to your email tool.
- On a paid account, the Apps panel also has a Newsletter app if you would rather keep subscribers inside We.Inc.
- Publish and submit a test address on the live site, since forms do not capture in preview.
WordPress
- Copy the embed code from your provider.
- Edit the page and add a Custom HTML block where the form belongs.
- Paste the code and click Update.
- For Kit or beehiiv, you can instead install their official plugin from Plugins > Add Plugin and use its form block.
WordPress.com removes script tags unless your site is on a paid plan with plugins and hosting features active, so Kit's JavaScript embed will not run on a free site. Mailchimp's plain HTML form is the safer fit there.
Wix
- In the Editor, click Add Elements, then Embed Code, then Embed HTML.
- Click Enter Code, paste the provider's snippet and click Apply.
- Drag the frame to size; Wix shows embeds in an iframe, so allow enough height for the success message.
- Publish and test the form on the live site.
Squarespace
- For Mailchimp, add a Newsletter block, open its Storage tab and connect Mailchimp.
- For Kit or beehiiv, add a Code block and paste their snippet.
- Save, then submit a test address from the published site.
Mailchimp storage on the newsletter block, and scripts in code blocks, both need the Core, Plus or Advanced plan.
Plain HTML
- Paste the provider's code where the form should appear, usually inside a <section> near the footer.
- Override its styles in your stylesheet so it matches your fonts and buttons.
- Leave the hidden fields Mailchimp adds (they include a bot trap) exactly as they are.

Pick the provider for the job
Mailchimp suits shops and local businesses that want automations tied to an online store. Kit is built around creators selling digital products. beehiiv is built for publishers who want a web archive of issues, a referral programme and ad monetisation.
Whichever you choose, write the first welcome email before the form goes live, so new subscribers hear from you while they still remember signing up.
How it works
- Create the audience or publication in your email tool.
- Build the form there: email field, optional first name, a consent line.
- Copy the embed code the tool generates.
- Paste it into the page, footer or blog sidebar of your site.
- Submit a real address on the live site and confirm the double opt-in email arrives.
Tips
- Ask for an email address and at most a first name. Each extra field costs signups.
- Say what people will get and how often, right above the button: 'One email a month with new recipes.'
- Keep double opt-in on. It blocks typo addresses and bots from polluting your list.
- If you connect Mailchimp through Squarespace's newsletter block, make every Mailchimp field except Email optional, or signups will not arrive.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Mailchimp embedded form free?
Mailchimp's help pages list no plan limit on embedded forms and say you can create as many forms as you need per audience. Your overall contact and send limits still depend on your Mailchimp plan.
Kit gives me JavaScript and HTML versions. Which should I use?
Kit recommends JavaScript: changes made in Kit update on your site automatically and it is less prone to theme style conflicts. Use HTML only if your site cannot run scripts, and re-copy it after every edit.
Why does my embedded form work in preview but not on the live site?
Usually the platform stripped the script on publish (common on free plans), or a cookie or ad blocker is hiding it. Test in a private window without extensions and check your plan allows custom code.
Do I need consent to add people to a newsletter?
In the EU, UK and Canada you need clear opt-in consent for marketing email, so do not pre-tick the box and do not add contact-form senders to your list without asking.
