Etsy Fee Calculator

Enter what the buyer pays and what the item costs you. The calculator adds up the Etsy listing fee, the transaction fee on the item and shipping, payment processing and, if the sale came from an offsite ad, the offsite ads fee, then shows your profit per item and margin. A second column shows the same sale on your own online store, using your own card rate and website cost. Every rate is an editable default taken from the vendor's standard published US pricing as of September 2026. Fees change and vary by country, account and product, so check the linked pricing page before relying on a number. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to We.Inc or anyone else.

How it works

  1. Enter the item price, the shipping you charge the buyer and any sales tax Etsy collects on the order.
  2. Enter your costs: materials or stock for one item and what the shipping label really costs you.
  3. Check the Etsy rates. Defaults are the $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and US payment processing of 3% plus $0.25, each editable with a link to Etsy's fee page.
  4. If the order came through Etsy's offsite ads, pick the 15% or 12% rate. The fee is capped at $100 per order, which the calculator applies.
  5. Compare with the own-store column: enter your card processing rate, your monthly website cost and how many orders a month it is spread across.

Worked example: a $28 necklace

A necklace sells for $28 with $4.50 shipping and no sales tax. Materials cost $6.20 and the label costs $4.10. Etsy fees at the defaults: listing $0.20, transaction 6.5% of $32.50 is $2.11, and processing 3% of $32.50 plus $0.25 is $1.23. Fees total $3.54, leaving $18.66 profit, a 57.4% margin on the $32.50 the buyer paid.

If the same order came from an offsite ad at 15%, another $4.88 comes off and profit drops to $13.78. On your own store at 2.9% plus $0.30 card processing and a $20 website spread over 40 orders, fees are $1.24 plus $0.50, and profit is $20.46.

Reading the comparison fairly

The own-store column counts only the costs you can put a number on per order. It leaves out advertising, your time and any apps you add. Treat it as the fee ceiling you would escape, then decide what you are willing to spend on bringing buyers to your own site.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

What fees does Etsy charge per sale?

As of September 2026, the defaults here are a $0.20 listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and US payment processing of 3% plus $0.25 on the order total including tax. Offsite ads add 15% or 12% on sales they bring in. Check Etsy's fee page for your country and shop.

Does Etsy charge a fee on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee is charged on what the buyer pays for shipping and gift wrap as well as the item. This calculator includes shipping in that fee.

How does the offsite ads fee work?

When a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another website and buys within the attribution window, Etsy charges a fee on that order: 15% by default, or 12% for shops over a sales threshold that must stay in the program. The fee is capped at $100 per order. Choose the rate that applies to you.

What is in the own online store column?

The same sale on your own website: your card processing fee on the order, plus your monthly website cost divided by your monthly orders. The website cost is prefilled with $20, the price of We.Inc's Starter plan, as an example only. Enter your own plan and processor rates.

Does the own-store column mean I should leave Etsy?

No. It shows fees only. Etsy brings buyers to you; your own site needs you to bring the buyers. Many sellers use both, and the comparison helps you decide which orders to steer where.

Is this Etsy fee calculator affiliated with Etsy?

No. It is an independent free tool. Confirm fees on Etsy's own fee page.
