Image Cropper for Websites

Choose a shape such as a 1200×630 share image, a 16:9 hero or a square product photo, drop in your picture, drag the box over the part you want and download it. The crop runs inside your browser, so the photo never leaves your device, and you can save it as WebP, JPG or PNG.

Crop first, then compress

Most oversized website images are not badly compressed; they are simply too large. A phone photo is often 4000 pixels wide, but a hero banner rarely needs more than 1920 and a card image about 1200. Cropping to the shape and size the page uses removes most of the weight before any compression happens.

After cropping, the image compressor can squeeze a little more out of the file, and the WebP converter handles whole folders at once.

Choosing the right shape

Match the crop to the box the image fills on the page. If a theme shows product photos in square tiles, crop them square yourself rather than letting CSS cut off the edges unpredictably. If the theme uses a 16:9 hero, a 4:5 portrait photo will be cropped hard, so pick a landscape shot or reframe it here.

For share images, think of the preview card as a small poster: a clear subject, a few large words at most, and nothing important near the edges.

How it works

  1. Pick a crop shape. Each preset sets the ratio and the output size; Free lets you drag any rectangle.
  2. Drop one or more images on the box or click to choose them. Up to 20 can be open at once, and none of them are uploaded.
  3. Drag the crop box to frame the picture and drag the blue dot to make it larger or smaller. With the box focused, the arrow keys nudge it, and Shift moves it faster.
  4. Choose WebP, JPG or PNG (and AVIF where your browser can make it), set the quality, and optionally a maximum width.
  5. Click Crop and download. With several images open, Crop all applies the same shape around the same point in each picture.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. The images are opened, cropped and saved by your browser on your own device. There is no upload step and nothing is stored on our servers.

What size should a share image be?

1200 × 630 pixels, a ratio of about 1.91 to 1, is the size most link previews are designed around. Pick the Share image preset to crop to exactly that.

What is the best format for website images?

WebP is the safe default for photos: small files and support in all current browsers. AVIF can be smaller still but takes longer to encode and is not offered by every browser's canvas. Use PNG for graphics that need sharp edges or transparency.

Can I crop several images to the same size?

Yes. Open several images, frame the first one, then use Crop all. Each image is cropped to the same shape and output size, centred on the same relative point as your first crop.

Why does the cropped file look blurry?

The crop area had fewer pixels than the output size, so it was enlarged. The tool shows a warning when that will happen. Use a larger original, a bigger crop area or a smaller maximum width.
