How to Add Crisp Chat to Your Website

Crisp needs only your Website ID. Copy it from Workspace Settings, Setup and Integrations, then paste the Crisp script (which sets CRISP_WEBSITE_ID and loads l.js) on every page, or paste the ID into the Crisp add-on on We.Inc. Crisp's Free plan covers the website widget, shared inbox and two agents.

Updated

Crisp sits between the free-forever tools and the enterprise suites: a real free tier for one or two people, and paid tiers when you want automation. The install is the lightest of the common widgets because the ID is the only thing that changes between sites.

Add Crisp on We.Inc, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or plain HTML

We.Inc

  1. Go to the "..." menu in the builder and select Add-ons.
  2. Paste your Crisp Website ID into the Crisp card.
  3. Turn the card's switch on.
  4. Publish; Crisp starts loading on the next live version.

WordPress

  1. Go to Plugins, then Add New Plugin, and search for Crisp.
  2. Install and activate it, then link your Crisp workspace from its settings page.
  3. Open the site in a private window to check the chatbox.

Plugins on WordPress.com need the Personal plan or higher.

Wix

  1. Open Settings, then Custom Code.
  2. Add the Crisp script for All pages.
  3. Place it in Body - end and click Apply.
  4. Publish the site.

Custom code needs a connected domain on a premium plan.

Squarespace

  1. Open Code Injection.
  2. Paste the Crisp script in the Footer field and save.
  3. Reload the published site to see the chatbox.

Crisp keeps its own Squarespace guide; Code Injection needs the Core plan or above.

Plain HTML

  1. Paste the script in each page, in the head or before </body>.
  2. Set CRISP_WEBSITE_ID to your ID.
  3. Upload and confirm the chatbox shows on every page.

Script shape

Crisp loader

The only value you change is the Website ID. Copy the exact current version from your Crisp dashboard.

<script>
  window.$crisp = [];
  window.CRISP_WEBSITE_ID = "YOUR_WEBSITE_ID";
  (function () {
    var s = document.createElement("script");
    s.src = "https://client.crisp.chat/l.js";
    s.async = 1;
    document.head.appendChild(s);
  })();
</script>

One workspace per site

Each Crisp workspace has its own Website ID. If you run two brands, create two workspaces so conversations, branding and operators stay apart, and use the matching ID on each site.

For React or Next.js, Crisp publishes an npm package, crisp-sdk-web, where you call Crisp.configure with the ID once. That avoids the script running twice when routes change.

How it works

  1. Sign up and create a workspace for your site.
  2. Copy the Website ID from Setup and Integrations.
  3. Install the script or paste the ID into a platform plugin.
  4. Install the Crisp mobile app so replies reach you away from the desk.

Tips

  • If the chatbox never loads, the ID is almost always wrong or missing; compare it character by character with the dashboard.
  • Crisp can generate a direct chat link, handy for email signatures or a QR code on printed material.
  • Two seats on the free plan means two people; share a login and you lose the record of who answered what.
