llms.txt is a Markdown file at the root of a site that gives language models a short, curated map of its most useful pages. The proposed format needs only an H1 with the site name; a blockquote summary and H2 lists of links with notes follow. Paste your sitemap here and download a ready file.

The tool cannot fetch your site, because a static page in your browser is not allowed to read other domains. Instead, open your sitemap.xml in a tab, copy everything, and paste it below; the URLs are pulled out for you.
Fill in your site name and one-line summary, then paste URLs or the contents of your sitemap.xml. The tool groups the links by section, lets you add notes, writes the file and checks it against the published format. Paste an existing file into the checker to review it.

One H1, a summary, a line of detail, two link sections and an Optional section for lower-priority pages.

The proposal published at llmstxt.org puts the file at /llms.txt and writes it in Markdown, because language models read Markdown easily. A file in a subfolder, such as /docs/llms.txt, covers the pages under that path.
After the H1 comes an optional blockquote summary, then optional detail text, then any number of H2 sections. Each section is a list where every item is a Markdown link, optionally followed by a colon and a note about what the page holds. A section titled Optional collects links an agent can drop when it is short on space.
The same proposal suggests offering clean Markdown copies of key pages at the same URL with .md added. That is a separate step; the generator only writes the index file.
llms.txt is a proposal, not a standard that search engines have committed to. Adding one is cheap and harmless, and it gives tools that do read it a clean summary, but there is no published evidence that it changes rankings or guarantees citations in answers.
Focus the file on pages that answer real questions: product or service pages, pricing, documentation, policies. Leave out tag archives, login pages and thin listings, the same pages you would keep out of a sitemap.
At the root of your domain, so it loads at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt, served as plain text. On most hosts that means uploading it to the same folder as robots.txt.
No. robots.txt tells crawlers what they may fetch. llms.txt does not grant or block anything; it is a reading list that points to your most useful content with short descriptions.
Browsers stop a page on one domain from reading pages on another unless that site allows it, and this tool runs entirely in your browser. Pasting your sitemap gives it the same list of URLs without any server in between.
It may help tools that look for it understand your site, but nobody has published proof that it changes how often a site is cited. Treat it as a low-cost addition to clear, well-structured pages, not a replacement for them.
