Packing Slip Generator: Print What Is in the Box

A packing slip is the sheet that travels inside the parcel and lists what was packed. Enter the order number, the ship-to address and each line with its SKU, quantity ordered and quantity shipped. The generator works out anything still to follow, hides prices by default for gift orders, and prints from your browser.

Updated

Most online shops print packing slips from their store admin, but plenty of sellers ship from a spreadsheet, a marketplace message or a phone order. For those, a clean slip that matches the order is a small detail that cuts down on 'my parcel is missing something' emails, especially when part of an order ships later.

A packing slip as plain HTML

If your shop prints slips from its own pages, this layout keeps the table rows from splitting across two sheets with break-inside: avoid, and sets the paper size with @page.

Minimal slip with print rules

Edit the lines to see the table change. The print rules only apply when the page is printed.

<style>

What belongs on a packing slip

Order number and date, ship-to address, and one line per product with its SKU, a plain description and quantities. Your shop name and a return address make it easy to send things back.

Leave out anything sensitive, such as full card details or internal notes. The slip is read by the buyer, and sometimes by whoever received the parcel on their behalf.

Split shipments without confusion

When stock runs short, ship what you have and say so. Enter the full ordered quantity and the shipped quantity for this box; the slip shows the difference so nobody thinks you forgot.

Print a second slip for the later parcel with the remaining quantities as shipped, and mention the first order number so both boxes are tied together.

How it works

  1. Enter your shop name and return address, then the order number and date.
  2. Paste or type the customer's ship-to address.
  3. Add a line for each product: SKU, description, quantity ordered and quantity shipped in this box.
  4. Leave Show prices off for gifts, or turn it on to include unit prices.
  5. Press Print packing slip and fold it into the box on top of the items.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

Is a packing slip the same as an invoice?

No. An invoice is about money: it asks for payment or records it. A packing slip is about contents: it lists what is physically in this box. Shopify describes a packing slip as listing the items in a package with the shipping and billing addresses, SKU numbers and quantities.

Should a packing slip show prices?

It is your choice. Many sellers leave prices off so a gift does not reveal what it cost. Turn on Show prices if your buyers are businesses who want to check the slip against their purchase order.

What does To follow mean?

It is the quantity ordered minus the quantity shipped in this box. If it is above zero, the customer knows the rest of that line is coming in a later parcel.

Does this tool keep my customers' addresses?

No. Everything stays inside this browser tab and disappears when you close it. Nothing is sent to us.

Can I print a shipping label here too?

This page makes the slip that goes inside the box. For the address label on the outside, use our shipping label maker, or buy postage from your carrier, which prints its own label with tracking.
