Most painting estimates come down to two numbers: materials and labour. Materials are paint, primer and sundries, usually with a markup to cover buying, collecting and storing them. Labour is prep time plus painting time, and painting time is area divided by how fast your crew works.

For each room: 2 x (length + width) x height, minus the doors and windows at the sizes you set, plus length x width if the ceiling is included. Areas are multiplied by the number of coats for paint and counted once for primer.
Use the figure on the paint's data sheet or can. Many interior wall paints state roughly 350 to 400 square feet per gallon (about 8.5 to 10 square metres per litre) on smooth surfaces, and less on rough ones. The default here is only a starting point; replace it with your product's number.
How much area one painter covers in an hour for one coat, after prep. It depends on the surface, the tools and the crew. The calculator divides the total painted area (all coats) by it to get painting hours, then adds your prep hours.
