Canva website builder review: great for a good-looking page, thin for a business site
Canva lets you design a website the way you design a poster, then publish it. Here is what it does well, where it falls short and who should pick something else.
We.Inc is free to start, no credit card. AI building from $20/mo.
The verdict
If you already design in Canva, its website builder is the fastest way to turn that design into a live page: you drag elements where you want them and publish to a free Canva address, a domain bought through Canva or a domain you own. Canva's help centre says a site can have up to 45 pages.
It is a design tool first. A January 2026 review by Site Builder Report found no built-in contact forms, blog, online store or booking, and headings that are not real heading tags for search engines. For a portfolio, event page or link-in-bio site that is fine; for a local business that needs leads from Google, a website builder made for that job fits better.

Pros and cons
Canva
Best for: People who already design in Canva and want a good-looking page live fast
Price: Website publishing comes with Canva itself: a Free plan, then Pro, Business and Enterprise. Canva showed us regional prices on Oct 30, 2026, not US dollars, so check canva.com/pricing for yours
Pros: Free-form design with the Canva editor you may already know; Huge template and photo library; Free publishing on a Canva address; Real-time collaboration on the design
Cons: No built-in contact form, blog, store or booking reported; Headings are styled text, not real heading tags; Phone layout follows the desktop design, so check it carefully; We could not confirm an export of the site to move elsewhere
We.Inc
Best for: People who want to describe a site or web app in plain English and have AI build it
Price: Free plan: up to 3 template sites on a we.inc address, no AI. AI building from $20/mo (Starter, 250 credits). Pro $49/mo, Max $99/mo.
Pros: Describe what you want in chat and AI builds a full, editable site or app; Edit by clicking on the page, by asking in chat, or in a real code editor; Export the React and TypeScript code to GitHub, so you are never locked in; Unlimited sites on paid plans, custom domains from Starter
Cons: The free plan is templates only; AI building needs a paid plan; Newer platform with a smaller app marketplace than the big names; Store features are simpler than a dedicated ecommerce platform
Verdict by buyer
A designer, creator or student who wants a portfolio or a link-in-bio page: Canva is a strong, cheap choice, especially if you already pay for it. An event or launch page that lives for a few weeks: Canva works well. A plumber, salon or restaurant that needs calls, bookings and Google traffic: pick a builder with forms, booking and search settings built in. A shop: use an ecommerce platform.
What Canva does well
Design freedom and speed. If you can make a social post in Canva you can make a website in it: every element can be placed and styled where you want it, and the template and photo library is far bigger than most website builders offer. Publishing is a few clicks, to a free Canva address, a new domain or one you already own, and teammates can edit the same design at the same time.
Where Canva falls short for a business site
A business website has jobs beyond looking good. Site Builder Report's January 2026 review found no way to add a contact form or newsletter sign-up, no blog, no online store and no appointment booking, and it found that headings are resized text rather than real heading tags, which makes it harder for search engines to understand the page. It also found that edits on the desktop layout can break the phone layout, with no separate phone editor to fix it.
That review also said Canva sites were one page only. Canva's help centre now describes multi-page sites of up to 45 pages, so that limit no longer applies. We could not confirm the other limits on Canva's help centre, which blocked our checks, so test them yourself before you build.
What Canva costs
There is no separate Canva websites plan: publishing comes with your Canva account. The free plan publishes on a Canva address with Canva branding, and the paid Pro, Business and Enterprise plans add Canva's premium design tools, templates and AI features. Canva showed us prices in our local currency on October 30, 2026, not US dollars, so we do not quote a figure; check canva.com/pricing, where Pro and Business offer a free trial. A domain bought through Canva is a separate yearly cost.
If the website is the only reason you would pay for Canva, compare that yearly cost with a builder made for websites. If you already pay for Canva for design work, the website comes at no extra plan cost.
A five-task test to run before you pay for Canva
Prices only tell you half the story. The fairest way to judge Canva is to give it the same small job you would give any builder: a five-page website for a local service business (home, services, about, reviews and contact).
1. Build the service list with a price or short description for each service. 2. Add a quote request form and send yourself a test entry to check it arrives. 3. Connect a custom domain and confirm the site loads on it with a padlock. 4. Change one piece of content, such as a new service or opening hours, and time how long it takes. 5. Check the result on a phone.
Note which plan each step needed. That tells you the plan you will really pay for, which is often not the cheapest one advertised. When the site is live, run it through our free website grader to check search basics and speed.
Moving away
We could not confirm a way to export a Canva website as a working site to host elsewhere, so plan to copy your text and images and rebuild if you leave. A domain you own can be pointed to a new site; if you bought it through Canva, check how to transfer it before you rely on it.
Who should pick something else, and what to pick
If you need a one-page site with a form and very few settings, Carrd is cheap and simple. If you want polished templates with forms, a blog and a store built in, look at Squarespace or Wix. If you want the most design control on a real website platform, look at Framer or Webflow.
Where We.Inc fits: the free plan publishes up to 3 template sites on a we.inc address, with no AI and no custom domain, and needs no credit card. AI building, where you describe the site and it is written for you, starts at $20 a month (Starter, 250 credits); Pro is $49 and Max is $99.
Who wrote this and how
We.Inc makes a competing website builder, so read this with that in mind. Every price on this page comes from the vendor's own pricing page on the date shown, with a link to it. We say where the other option is the better choice, and we do not publish scores for tests we have not run.
