Fill in when you clocked in and out each day, add the unpaid break, and the calculator adds up daily hours, the weekly total, how many hours were overtime and what the week pays before tax. Leave a day empty if you did not work. Use your browser's print command for a clean copy.
A time card is nothing more than a list of in and out times, but the arithmetic trips people up because clock time does not add like decimals. Eight hours and forty five minutes is 8.75 hours for pay purposes. This calculator converts each shift into minutes first, adds the minutes, and only then divides by 60, which avoids the rounding drift you get from adding rounded daily figures.
Breaks are the other common source of error. An unpaid meal break comes off the total; a short paid rest does not. If you are unsure which applies, look at how your last paycheck was calculated and match it.
Overtime in this tool is weekly: every hour past the threshold is paid at the rate times the multiplier, and every hour up to the threshold is paid at the normal rate. If you worked fewer hours than the threshold there is no overtime at all, no matter how long any single day was.
Some employers and some places also count daily overtime, double time on certain days or a different threshold for certain jobs. Those rules are not built in. If yours differ, run the sheet to get your hours, then apply your own rules to the hours that count.
For each day it subtracts the clock in time from the clock out time, adds 24 hours if you worked past midnight, and subtracts the unpaid break. The day totals are added together for the week. For example, 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30 minute break is 8 hours.
Hours in the week above the threshold are overtime. They are paid at the hourly rate times the multiplier. With a 40 hour threshold, 44 hours at $20 an hour and a 1.5 multiplier is 40 x $20 + 4 x $30 = $920.
Use what your employer, contract or local rules say. Many workplaces use 40 hours a week and time and a half, but this varies by country, state and job type, so the numbers are fields you can change.
