Google Business Profile Posts: How to Write Ones That Stay Up

Posts are short announcements you publish on your Google Business Profile. Google offers three kinds: updates, offers and events. Each can carry a photo and a button. Posts older than six months are archived unless they have a date range, and Google may remove posts that include unverified phone numbers or email addresses.

Updated

A post is the cheapest bit of fresh content you can put in front of people who already found you on Search or Maps. Draft one below: pick the type, write the text, and the drafter flags things that commonly get a post rejected before you paste it into your profile.

Everything stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to Google.

Rules worth knowing before you post

RuleWhat Google says

Contact detailsPosts with unverified phone numbers, email addresses or social handles may be removed
HotelsCannot create offer posts or mention deals, promotions or discounts
SchedulingPosts can be scheduled or set to recur, and published to one or many profiles

The same post through the API

Agencies posting for many locations can use the Business Profile API. This is the shape of an offer post body; field names follow Google's LocalPost reference.

Offer post (LocalPost JSON)

The offer runs between the two dates in the event schedule. Replace the coupon, link and text with your own.

What a good post looks like

One idea per post. A bakery's update could be a single line about this week's sourdough plus a photo of the loaf; an offer post could be ten percent off cakes ordered before Friday, with the dates filled in.

Write for someone standing outside deciding whether to come in. Times, prices and what is new beat slogans.

Where posts fit in your profile

Posts sit alongside reviews, photos and hours. They do not replace keeping your hours and services accurate, which Google lists among its tips for local ranking.

If you use the Business Profile API, the post types are named STANDARD, EVENT, OFFER and ALERT, and buttons use action types such as BOOK, ORDER, SHOP, LEARN_MORE, SIGN_UP and CALL.

How it works

  1. Choose update, offer or event. Offer and event posts ask for a title and dates.
  2. Write the body. The counter shows characters and words so you can keep it tight.
  3. Pick a button and enter the web page it should open.
  4. Read the warnings, then copy the text into Posts, then Add post, in your profile.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

How long do Google Business Profile posts last?

Google's help page says posts older than six months are archived unless a date range is set. Offer and event posts with dates follow those dates instead.

Is there a character limit?

Google's help pages for posts did not state a character limit when we checked in October 2026, so we do not quote one. Short posts read better anyway: the start of the text is what shows on the profile.

Why was my post removed?

Google's posts policy says it may remove posts with unverified contact information, including phone numbers, email addresses and social media handles. Hotels also cannot publish offer posts or mention deals. Other content policies for photos and text apply too.

Can I post to several locations at once?

Yes. Google's steps end with publishing to a single profile or to multiple profiles you manage, and posts can be scheduled or set to repeat.
