Six bakery website designs, compared by what a customer needs to do

Bakery customers want to know what is baked today and what it costs, whether they can hold one before it sells out, and how to order something bigger. The six designs below cover a bread bakery, cake and cupcake shops, a custom cake maker, a bagel shop and a cookie shop.

How these were picked

Six sample sites from our library, each a different kind of bakery. We read each live sample and noted how the daily menu is shown, how pre-orders work and what a customer still cannot do. We left out a catalogue template and a showcase build that did not actually show a neighbourhood bakery. Checked 27 September 2026. Every design here is from the We.Inc library and is labelled as a sample or template. None is a customer site, and no entry claims results.

1. Bellweather Bread Co.

Sample site built by our AI (made-up business). Open it

Task: A regular who wants to hold a loaf before it sells out.

Design choice: "Bread out of the oven at eight, gone by one" with "Preorder bread". "The daily bake" lists Country sourdough, 900g $9, Seeded rye $10.50 (baked Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) and Butter croissant $4.75, and says preorders are held until 1pm. The FAQ answers "What time do you sell out?" and says plainly there are no gluten-free options.

Limitation: The FAQ says to preorder through the website, but the sample has no order form or shop. You need to connect one.

2. Poppy Lane Cakes

Sample site built by our AI (made-up business). Open it

Task: Someone who wants a slice today or a whole cake for the weekend.

Design choice: "A real slice of cake, cut every afternoon" with "Order a cake" and "Today's flavors". Sizes are priced (Six inch layer cake $46, Eight inch layer cake $72) and the FAQ answers "How many people does each size feed?".

Limitation: "Today's flavors" needs a list you update daily. Without it, customers still have to call.

3. Fern & Fondant

Sample site built by our AI (made-up business). Open it

Task: A customer planning a custom or wedding cake.

Design choice: "The cake in your head, actually built" with "Request a design" and "Book a tasting". Prices start at Celebration cake From $145, and the Private tasting appointment ($65) is credited to the order. The FAQ answers "How much should I expect to spend?".

Limitation: "Request a design" should open a form for date, servings and a reference photo. The sample only offers a phone call.

4. Kettle Row Cupcakes

Sample site built by our AI (made-up business). Open it

Task: Someone ordering a box for pickup.

Design choice: "Baked this morning, iced by hand" with "Order for pickup". Box sizes are priced (Half dozen box $23, Dozen box $44) and the FAQ covers "Do you deliver?" and gluten free or vegan options.

Limitation: Pickup ordering needs a shop or order form connected. The sample shows prices, not a checkout.

5. Hudson Kettle Bagels

Sample site built by our AI (made-up business). Open it

Task: An office manager ordering breakfast for a team.

Design choice: "Boiled in malt water, not steamed" with "Order pickup" and "Catering trays" as separate buttons. Baker's dozen $24, Office catering tray From $85, and the FAQ answers "Can I order catering the day before?".

Limitation: Catering is by phone. A tray order form (date, headcount, pickup or delivery) would take orders after hours.

6. Thicket Cookie Co.

Sample site built by our AI (made-up business). Open it

Task: Someone sending cookies to another city.

Design choice: "Six ounces, still warm, out at the top of every hour" with "Order a dozen". A Nationwide shipping box ($62 for a dozen shipped) and an FAQ "How does shipping work?" that explains which days boxes go out.

Limitation: Shipping needs a shop with delivery rates. The site can show the box, but checkout is something you connect.

Walkthrough: reserving a loaf on the Bellweather sample

  1. The visitor lands on "Bread out of the oven at eight, gone by one" with "Preorder bread" and "See the bake list".
  2. "The daily bake" lists Country sourdough, 900g ($9), Seeded rye ($10.50) and Butter croissant ($4.75), and says preorders are held until 1pm.
  3. "Four bakers, one deck oven, an early alarm" covers the starter, the flour and what happens to day-old bread.
  4. The FAQ answers "Can I reserve a loaf?" and "What time do you sell out?", then "Order ahead or drop in" gives the cutoff and hours.
  5. Gap to fix: connect a preorder form or shop so "Preorder bread" actually takes an order, and mark which days each loaf is baked.

Questions

Can I reserve a loaf?

The Bellweather sample takes preorders until 6pm the day before and holds them until 1pm. On your site, give your own cutoff and hold time, and connect a form or shop so people can actually reserve.

What time do you sell out?

The sample gives rough times for weekdays and weekends. Write yours from what actually happens at your counter.

What makes this bakery website work

The headline sells an outcome

The first thing a visitor reads is "Bread out of the oven at eight, gone by one", with "Baking on Hope Street since 2016" set above it as a small label. The line underneath does the explaining: "Naturally leavened loaves with a long overnight ferment, croissants laminated by hand, and about two hundred loaves a day. When it sells out, that is the day." Two buttons follow, "Preorder bread" for people ready to act and "See the bake list" for people who want to look around first. The layout is a split hero, copy on one side and footage on the other, using looping stock footage instead of a static photo.

A strip of hard facts

Directly below the hero, a strip of 4 short facts does the job most bakery sites leave to vague words like "trusted" or "experienced": 200 (loaves a day), 18 hr (fermentation on the country loaf), 9 yrs (on Hope Street) and 8am (bread hits the shelf). Each one is something a customer can check or hold the business to.

The menu of services is priced

The "The daily bake" section lists 6 what we bake: Country sourdough, 900g ($9), Seeded rye ($10.50), Butter croissant ($4.75), Morning buns and danish ($5 to $6), Custom celebration cake (From $65) and Wholesale to restaurants (Quoted). Prices run from $4.75 to $65, so a visitor can tell in seconds whether it fits the budget. A one-line note sets the terms: "Wednesday through Sunday. Preorders are held until 1pm." Each item gets a sentence of its own, for example "Our everyday loaf, 18 hour ferment, deep crust and open crumb."

A story with checkable details

Under the heading "Four bakers, one deck oven, an early alarm", the about section says: "Bellweather started as a Saturday market stall in 2014 and took the Hope Street shop two years later. The starter is the same one Elena carried from her first kitchen job, fed twice a day since." It then lists 3 concrete points instead of a paragraph of values: long overnight ferments, no commercial yeast in the sourdough, flour sourced from a regional mill, part milled here and day-old bread is half price and donated at close on Sundays.

Testimonials that say something

There are 3 reviews, each signed with a name and a context (Steve K., Country loaf regular; Nina P., Sunday morning; Omar J., Custom cake). None of them says "great service". They mention a specific moment, like "The croissant actually shatters. That is rarer around here than it should be."

It answers the questions people are afraid to ask

The FAQ covers 4 questions: "Can I reserve a loaf?", "What time do you sell out?", "Do you have gluten-free options?" and "How should I store the bread?". The answers are direct. The first one reads: "Yes. Preorder through the website by 6pm the day before and we hold it under your name until 1pm."

Contact is a single clear ask

The page closes on "Order ahead or drop in". It sets expectations before anyone gets in touch: "Preorders close at 6pm the day before. For cakes and wholesale, call the shop between 10am and 2pm." Hours are written out (Wed to Sun 7am to 3pm, closed Mon and Tue) and so is the area covered (Providence East Side, Pawtucket, Barrington). The phone number also sits in the header on every scroll position, so nobody has to hunt for it.

The design stays out of the way

The palette is three colors: a #fbf6ee background, #231a12 text and one accent (#a8471f) used only for buttons and labels. Headings are set in a serif face and buttons have 6px rounded corners. The menu has 6 items (Services, Pricing, About, Reviews, FAQ and Contact), all on one page, so it scrolls instead of making people click through.

Every service and price, as the site lists it
