Google Business Profile Not Showing on Google? Common Causes | How-to Guide

A checklist for when your Business Profile does not appear in Search or Maps: verification status, suspensions, pending edits, searching the wrong way, and the difference between not showing and not ranking.

"My business is not on Google" can mean two different problems. Either the profile is genuinely missing, or it exists but does not appear for the searches you tried. The fix depends on which one you have, so start by finding out.

Step 1: search for your exact name

Search your exact business name plus your town on Google and on Google Maps. If the profile appears for that, it is live. Your problem is ranking for broader searches, which is a different job covered further down. If nothing appears even for your exact name, carry on with the checks below.

Step 2: check verification

Google's Business Profile Help says a profile has to be verified before it can show to the public and before your edits go live. Sign in and look for a prompt to verify. Verification can be by video, phone, text, email or postcard depending on the business, and Google chooses the options. A profile stuck in "pending" will not show.

Step 3: check for a suspension or restriction

If your dashboard shows a warning that the profile is suspended or restricted, it may be hidden. The usual causes are a name with extra keywords, an address that is not a real staffed location, or duplicate listings. Fix the cause and use Google's reinstatement form rather than creating a new profile.

Step 4: check for pending edits

Recent changes to name, category or address go through review. Google notes that edits can take some time to be published, and large changes can send the whole profile for review. If you made several big changes this week, that may be why things look odd.

Step 5: check whether it was merged or claimed by someone else

Search Maps for your phone number. Sometimes an old listing from a previous owner or a duplicate made by Google already exists. You can request ownership of a listing through Google's process, or report a duplicate so it is merged.

When it exists but does not rank

If your name search works but "plumber near me" does not show you, the profile is visible and simply not chosen for that search. Google says local results come from relevance, distance and prominence. In practice that means:

  • choosing the most accurate primary category
  • listing every real service in the services section
  • gathering reviews steadily and replying to them
  • linking to a website that clearly describes the service and the area
  • keeping hours and contact details correct

New profiles often take time to appear for competitive searches, especially if strong competitors sit closer to the searcher.

A note on searching from your own phone

Results depend on where the searcher is. Searching from your shop shows you a different map than a customer across town sees. Use the Performance section in your profile to see what searches actually led people to you.

Do not forget the website

Your profile and your website support each other. A site that Google can read, with a page for each main service and the same name, address and phone as the profile, gives Google confidence that the business is real.

Pages built from your real services make that link stronger with every week that passes. SEO God Mode drafts up to two of them a week from your own business details, and you approve each one from your inbox.

Frequently asked questions

How long after verification does a profile appear?

Often within days, though Google does not promise a fixed time. Edits made right after verification may also go through review first.

My profile shows for my name but not my service. Why?

The profile is live but not ranking. Google picks local results by relevance, distance and prominence, so work on categories, services, reviews and your website.

Can I have a profile without a shop address?

Yes. Service-area businesses can hide their address and set the areas they serve instead.
