Exact steps to cancel a Wix Premium or Studio plan, what the 14-day refund covers and what it does not, how to keep or transfer your domain and business email, and how to move your content. Based on Wix's help centre, checked September 2026.
<p class="lead text-xl text-[#3a3a3a] mb-8"> Cancelling a Wix Premium plan takes four clicks. What catches people out is everything around it: the plan can auto-renew up to three weeks before it expires, the domain and business email are separate subscriptions that keep renewing, and Wix does not give you a file you can take to another host. This guide follows Wix's own help articles as of September 2026 (sources at the end) and puts the steps in a safe order. </p>
<h2>Short answer</h2> <ol> <li>Copy your content out (Wix has no full-site export).</li> <li>Decide what happens to the domain and any business email.</li> <li>Go to <strong>Premium Subscriptions</strong>, click the <strong>More Actions</strong> icon next to the plan, choose <strong>Cancel Plan</strong>, then <strong>Cancel Now</strong>.</li> <li>Turn off auto-renew on the domain and mailbox if you do not want them.</li> </ol>
<h2>Timing: the auto-renew trap</h2> <p>Wix says a site plan <strong>may renew up to 3 weeks before its expiry date</strong> (<a href="https://support.wix.com/en/article/canceling-a-wix-premium-plan" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Canceling a Wix Premium or Studio plan</a>). If your yearly plan ends on 30 November, renewal could be charged in early November. If you are leaving, turn off auto-renew well before that (<a href="https://support.wix.com/en/article/turning-off-the-auto-renewal-for-a-wix-premium-plan" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">turning off auto-renewal</a>). Renewals are not covered by the 14-day refund.</p>
<h2>Step 1: Get your content out</h2> <p>Wix does not offer a way to download your site as files you can upload elsewhere. In practice you copy:</p> <ul> <li>Page text into a document, one heading per page, in menu order.</li> <li>Your original photos (from your own computer where possible; otherwise from the Wix Media Manager).</li> <li>Blog posts, one by one into a document, keeping their titles and publish dates.</li> <li>Products: name, price, description, options and photos into a spreadsheet.</li> <li>Contacts, form submissions and orders, exported from their dashboards as CSV where Wix offers it.</li> <li>A list of your page URLs (for example /services), so you can reuse them on the new site.</li> </ul>
<h2>Step 2: Keep your domain (or move it)</h2> <p>If you bought the domain through Wix, it is a separate subscription. Cancelling the site plan does not cancel it, and Wix says you must turn off auto-renew for a domain or business email separately if you do not want them (<a href="https://support.wix.com/en/article/canceling-a-wix-premium-plan" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Wix</a>). Your options:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Keep it at Wix</strong> and point it at your new site with DNS records.</li> <li><strong>Transfer it to another registrar</strong> so billing and settings live elsewhere.</li> </ul>
<h3>Transferring a domain away from Wix</h3> <p>From <a href="https://support.wix.com/en/article/transferring-your-wix-domain-away-from-wix-2477749" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Transferring your Wix domain away from Wix</a>:</p> <ol> <li>Check eligibility: under ICANN rules a domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of purchase, and changing registrant contact details also locks it for 60 days.</li> <li>Wix recommends turning off Private Registration first so you receive the transfer emails.</li> <li>Go to <strong>Domains</strong>, click the <strong>Domain Actions</strong> icon next to the domain, choose <strong>Transfer away from Wix</strong>, review and click <strong>Transfer Domain</strong>.</li> <li>Wix emails an authorization (EPP) code to the domain's registrant contact address.</li> <li>Give that code to your new registrar to start the transfer. Wix says it typically takes up to 7 days; a WHOIS lookup should show "pending transfer".</li> </ol> <p>After the transfer the Wix site is disconnected. If you use business email on the domain, Wix notes you must add the MX records again at the new host or email will stop working. Write those records down before you start. <h2>Step 3: Cancel the Premium or Studio plan</h2> <ol> <li>Go to <strong>Premium Subscriptions</strong> in your Wix account.</li> <li>Click the <strong>More Actions</strong> icon next to the plan.</li> <li>Select <strong>Cancel Plan</strong>.</li> <li>Click <strong>Cancel Now</strong>.</li> </ol> <p>If you cancel after the refund window, the site stays premium until the end of the billing cycle. Then, Wix says, the address reverts to the free wixsite.com URL and Wix ads appear. The site is not deleted, which is useful if you still need to copy something.</p>

If you cancel within 72 hours, the charge may simply drop off within 20 business days; within 24 hours it may be voided and no refund line appears. If you do not qualify but think you should, Wix says you can contact them for a review.</p>
<h2>Moving the site to We.Inc</h2> <p>We.Inc has no automatic Wix importer, so the move is a rebuild using the content you copied in step 1:</p> <ol> <li>On the <strong>free plan</strong>, pick a <a href="/website-templates/business">template</a> close to your old layout and paste your text and photos in.
