How to Fix Wrong Facts About Your Business in AI Answers | How-to Guide
What to do when ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or Perplexity states the wrong hours, address, prices or services for your business: find the source, correct it, and use each platform's feedback route.
An assistant tells a customer you close at five when you close at seven, or that you sell a service you dropped years ago. There is no editor to email. But wrong answers almost always come from somewhere, and fixing the somewhere is what changes the answer.
First, find out where the error came from
Ask the assistant the question again with search turned on and look at the cited links. ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews all show sources. Click each one and look for the wrong fact. In practice it usually turns up in one of these places:
- an old page on your own site, such as a price list from two years ago or a blog post mentioning a former address
- a directory or aggregator listing you never claimed
- your Google Business Profile, Bing Places or Apple Business listing
- a review or forum post describing how things used to be
- a business with a similar name in another town
If no source is cited, the answer may come from the model's training data rather than live search. Those errors fade slowly as models are updated, so the same fixes still apply; they just take longer.
Fix your own site first
Update or remove the outdated page. If the old page still gets visits, rewrite it with current facts rather than deleting it. Put your core facts in plain text on a page crawlers can read: legal name, address or service area, phone, hours, services, price ranges. Add LocalBusiness structured data that matches the visible text, which Google's structured data guidelines require. Then ask Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to recrawl the changed pages through URL Inspection.
Fix the listings
Update Google Business Profile, Bing Places for Business and Apple Business, since assistants and maps rely on them. Then work through the directories that showed up in citations. Claim the listing where you can and correct it. Where you cannot, most directories have a "suggest an edit" or support form.
Use each platform's feedback route
- ChatGPT: OpenAI's help centre explains that you can rate a response with the thumbs-down button and add a note. OpenAI also runs a privacy request process for personal data about individuals, which is separate from business facts.
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: use the feedback option on the overview and describe the error. Google's help pages say AI features can make mistakes and that feedback is reviewed.
- Copilot: use the thumbs-down feedback on the reply. Because Copilot draws on Bing, correcting Bing Places and your indexed pages matters most.
- Perplexity: answers cite live pages, so once the source is fixed and recrawled, a fresh question often returns the corrected fact.
Feedback alone rarely fixes a fact if the wrong source is still online. Do the source fixes first.
Name confusion with another business
If an assistant mixes you up with a similarly named company, be explicit on your site: your full name, town, founding year and what you do, near the top of the homepage and about page. Consistent details across listings help search systems separate the two entities.
Check again in a few weeks
Recrawling takes time, and answers vary between runs. Ask the same questions two to four weeks later and record whether the error is gone. If one stubborn source keeps reappearing, focus there.
Accurate, current pages are the long-term cure, and SEO God Mode writes its drafts for We.Inc sites only from the facts you have given it, so new pages do not add fresh errors.
Frequently asked questions
Can I ask OpenAI to change what ChatGPT says about my business?
There is no business-facts correction form. Rate the wrong answer with feedback, then fix the pages and listings it cites so later answers pick up the right details.
How long until an AI answer is corrected?
Answers based on live search can change within weeks of the source being fixed and recrawled. Errors that come from training data take longer, until the model is updated.
Should I delete old pages with outdated facts?
Usually update them instead. A rewritten page with current facts replaces the error and keeps any visitors and links the page already has.
